HYHF worker using a pneumatic tool to fasten a long furniture crate

Packing guide

Furniture packing should respond to the item, route and handling.

HYHF reviews the factory pack first, then quotes additional protection where the cargo needs it.

Short answer

Paid furniture packing can include fumigation-free wooden frames or crates, pallet bases, moisture barriers, edge and corner protection, internal bracing and reinforcement around stress points. The method is selected after reviewing the product, surfaces, packed size, weight and route.

Start with the likely damage point

A sofa, stone table, cabinet and long panel do not need the same pack. The review looks at legs, corners, glass, polished surfaces, hardware, unsupported spans, moisture exposure and whether the piece can support stacking.

The packing method should protect the weak point without creating unnecessary volume that makes the entire shipment more expensive.

Common protection methods

A fumigation-free wooden frame can add structure while keeping visual access to the item. A closed crate provides more surface protection. Pallet bases improve forklift handling, while internal bracing reduces movement inside the pack.

Wooden frameStructural support and forklift handling with partial visibility
Closed crateGreater surface enclosure for sensitive or irregular items
Moisture barrierProtection from humidity and water exposure during handling
Edge and corner protectionReduces impact at common furniture damage points
Internal bracingLimits movement and supports long or weak components

Packing changes freight data

After the pack is built, measure and weigh it again. The final packed data may change container fit, air chargeable weight, warehouse handling and final-mile vehicle choice.

For ordinary container cargo, the finished piece must still pass safely through the actual container door and leave enough working room for loading and securing.

What to confirm in the packing quote

Ask which pieces will be repacked, which materials will be used, whether the pack is open or closed, how the item will be lifted and whether the quoted dimensions are before or after packing.

Also confirm who approves the pack, when photos are provided and how the packing IDs connect to the commercial packing list.

Frequently asked questions

Is export packing included in every freight price?

No. HYHF reviews the existing factory pack and quotes optional paid packing according to the cargo and agreed scope.

Does every furniture item need a wooden crate?

No. The method depends on the item, existing packing, route, handling and risk. Some pieces may need only reinforcement or moisture and edge protection.

What does fumigation-free wood mean?

HYHF can use export-suitable engineered or compliant wood materials where the shipment requires them. The exact material and destination requirements are confirmed for the cargo.

Will packing increase the freight cost?

It can increase dimensions and weight, but it may reduce damage and handling risk. The final route should be calculated from the packed data, not the unpacked product.
